The recently inaugurated Governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell, wasted no time in addressing the number 1 issue on everyone's mind these days: job creation. On January 27, he addressed nearly 500 technology business leaders, who were attending the Northern Virginia Technology Council's (NVTC) Public Policy series, held at the Tysons Ritz, according to the Vienna Connection.
In his address, according to the news outlet, Governor McDonnell said his goal is to be the "jobs governor." He also said we "need to create an environment where the private sector can thrive in order to promote entrepreneurship and attract new business to the state." He then outlined several initiatives he is undertaking, including "establishing a statewide commission dedicated to creating jobs," and "dedicating more resources to the bio-technology industry through research grants and wet labs; enhancing the business incubator program; more private/public partnerships; and the creation of a megasite that will attract industrial and manufacturing companies to the state."
With the plans for the development and expansion of Tysons Corner, including the completion of the Metro's Silver Line in 2013, the Governor couldn't have had a better backdrop for his job creation message.
